🚨 2025 Mumbai Local Train Accident – A Snapshot
On June 9, 2025, a tragic incident occurred between Diva and Mumbra stations on Central Railway’s Kasara–CSMT route: overcrowded locals passing each other on a curve led to a deadly collision between commuters hanging off the doors. The result? 8–13 passengers fell off the trains, leaving four dead and several others injured .

🧭 What Caused It?
1. Overcrowding & unsafe practices
Commuters were dangerously hanging from footboards and door sections during peak rush .
2. Proximity in curved sections
On a curved track, trains come closer, especially in narrow stretches like Diva–Mumbra. Commuters on adjacent trains came into contact—sometimes via backpacks—leading to a domino effect .
3. Backpacks & internal crowd pressure
Ex-Rail GM Subodh Jain highlighted that heavy backpacks and internal shoves can topple individuals hanging onto the train’s edge .
4. Delayed emergency response
Despite passengers pulling the emergency chain up to 3 times, the train halted only upon reaching Thane—about 12 km away .

Prototype to debut by November 2025 and roll-out by January 2026 .
